Hypertext atlas of Pathology

Hypertext Atlas of Organ Pathology contains teaching materials for pre-graduate students. It is under construction and in full version so far available in Czech language only. The English version contains only chapters with images to enable image sharing (see bellow). The interface is similar to the Atlas of Dermatopathology. Many macroscopic and microscopic images are available, as well as images from CT and MRI scanners and endoscopes.

Isolated heart perfused according to Lagendorff

The tutorial film "Isolated heart perfused according to Lagendorff" presents the basic methodologies used in experimental cardiology, which involve isolated hearts perfused according to Langendorff. It covers up-to-date trends in experimental cardiology. The film may be used at medical faculties and related schools. This instructional material has been created under the support of the University Development Fund of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic, project no. G3 1271/2008. This show is shortened version of 29-min movie.

Pediatric otorhinolaryngology

Tutorial text Pediatric otorhinolaryngology is the basic text with informations about the embryology, clinical anatomy and physiology, investigations practice by the ORL diseases for study of otorhinolaryngology. Text is divided in chapters for the preparing for examination in otorhinolaryngology.

Practicals in Pharmacology

The text provides an introduction to general principles and rules for prescription of drugs in various pharmaceutical dosage forms with examples of individually prepared preparation prescriptions in dermatology, otorhinolaryngology, surgery, ophthalomology and for treatments of the CNS, respiratory and digestive systems disorders. There is also an introduction to phytopharmacotherapy and a chapter dealing with information on principles and ethics in experimental pharmacology.

Automatic urinalysis

An automated unit for chemical and microscopic examination of urine. This instruction video on automatic biochemical analysers was made in collaboration with the Dept. of Clinical Biochemistry and Haematology of the Faculty Hospital in Brno, the Dept. of Biochemistry, and the Data Processing Centre of the MU Fac. of Medicine in Brno. It is provided with a spoken commentary which, on the one hand, gives a static description of the individual components of the analyser and, on the other, accompanies individual demonstrations of its function. The video also contains a description and a demonstration of the functioning of the automated urine laboratory (automated unit for chemical and microscopic examination of urine iQ200).

Blood taking

This video recording is destined for supplementation of the instruction in Clinical Biochemistry in biomedical disciplines and deals with the description of procedures used in the taking and processing of blood. It gives a concise documentation on the preparation of the patient prior to the taking and the procedure during the taking of venous blood. Emphasis is laid on the use of the closed system of blood taking. Mention is made of the transport and storage of samples, procedures of the taking of plasma and serum, and of obtaining and processing capillary blood.

Biological psychiatry occupies itself by mental disorders from biological, chemical and physical point of view. It is postulated that changes in brain signal transmission are essential in development of mental disorders. Analysis of genomic and proteomic data

This e-learning educational textbook is dedicated to analysis of data from genomic and proteomic high-throughput experiments, such as microarrays, MASS spectrometry, 2-D gel eletrophoresis and DNA sequencing.The book discuss all the important analytical steps from pre-processing through differential gene(protein)-expression to pathways and meta-analysis of multiple experiments. Cardiac Cycle

This teaching material consists of a text part (see below) and an animation. The text part contains the detailed description of the individual phases of the cardiac cycle. The animation shows the mechanical events in the heart during the cardiac cycle including the arterial pulse, electrocardiogram, heart sounds, venous pulse, pressure and volume changes in the right atrium and in the left ventricle.

Random access analyser (HITACHI 917)

The automatic biochemical analyser Hitachi 917 is a prototype of high-capacity selective analyser. It has a capacity of 800 photometric tests per hour and the possibility of selective choice out of a range of fifty biochemical tests. This involves spectrophotometric methods that utilise measurements of absorbance of the reaction mixture in a cuvette at various wavelengths. A part of the analyser is an ion-selective electrode module for the determination of sodium, potassium, and chlorides. The duration of the video is 17 min.

The information systems and information technologies are widely used in today’s health care systems, and therefore it is necessary to support education in this area for both medical students and for physicians who graduated before informatics was applied in the field of medicine. DIOS - Dose Intensity as Oncology Standard

The DIOS project was launched in 2006 with the primary objective to enhance the oncologists' awareness of the significance of dose intensity monitoring in anticancer chemotherapy. Another objective was to develop a fully electronic version of chemotherapy regimens which could complement the Principles of Cytostatic Therapy in Malignant Tumours, published by the Czech Oncological Society of CMA JEP. The advantages of the electronic version include easy updates, as well as the possibility of direct use for clinical practice and/or educational purposes. The electronic standards can also be used as templates for hospital information system databases.

Cardiac output measurement - Thermodilution

Interactive Flash animation demonstrating the principles of thermodilution measurement of cardiac output. (flash animation).  Measuring cardiac output is of paramount importance in the management of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit and of 'high risk' surgical patients in the operating room. Alternatives to thermodilution are now available and are gaining acceptance among practitioners who have been trained almost exclusively in the use of the pulmonary artery catheter.
