Experimentally induced atherosclerosis in laboratory animal

Experimentally induced atherosclerosis in laboratory animal

Tutorial film “Experimentally induced atherosclerosis in laboratory animal - part 1 and 2 “ is intended for students of Pathophysiology in General Medicine (VLA) and Dental Medicine (ZLA) courses. The film systematically shows the procedure to create an experimental model of atherosclerosis in laboratory animal, surgical techniques, tools and equipment as well as subsequent processing of biological material. It aims to serve as an introduction to the student´s practical work itself.

ABC of Informatics

ABC of Informatics

It becomes increasingly important for medical professionals to have an understanding of informatics and its background. The information systems and information technologies are widely used in today’s health care systems, and therefore it is necessary to support education in this area for both medical students and for physicians who graduated before informatics was applied in the field of medicine. The aims of Informatics should be oriented on improving knowledge about computers’ terms, methods and tools. The student should acquire the knowledge that allows them to reach the appropriate computer skills. These have to be sufficient to use Informatics elements in processing of given tasks and/or scientific works in an effective way.

DIOS - Dose Intensity as Oncology Standard

DIOS - Dose Intensity as Oncology Standard

The DIOS project was launched in 2006 with the primary objective to enhance the oncologists' awareness of the significance of dose intensity monitoring in anticancer chemotherapy. Another objective was to develop a fully electronic version of chemotherapy regimens which could complement the Principles of Cytostatic Therapy in Malignant Tumours, published by the Czech Oncological Society of CMA JEP. The advantages of the electronic version include easy updates, as well as the possibility of direct use for clinical practice and/or educational purposes. The electronic standards can also be used as templates for hospital information system databases.

Cardiac output measurement - Thermodilution

Cardiac output measurement - Thermodilution

Interactive Flash animation demonstrating the principles of thermodilution measurement of cardiac output. (flash animation).  Measuring cardiac output is of paramount importance in the management of critically ill patients in the intensive care unit and of 'high risk' surgical patients in the operating room. Alternatives to thermodilution are now available and are gaining acceptance among practitioners who have been trained almost exclusively in the use of the pulmonary artery catheter.

General and specialized psychiatry

General and specialized psychiatry

The psychiatry makes part of neuroscience which is currently undergoing dynamic development. Although two high-quality textbooks are available now, there have been some changes in the practical outputs of our discipline. The objective of these seminar notes from psychiatry course is to follow these changes, and to provide you with up-to-date information which is necessary to acquire the basic knowledge. These materials will be updated on a regular basis. These notes do not replace recommended textbooks, they should give you a quick overview of the basic topics in psychiatry. They are supposed to be used in your preparation for psychiatry courses and should be helpful during the revision of the explained matter.

Blood taking

Blood taking

This video recording is destined for supplementation of the instruction in Clinical Biochemistry in biomedical disciplines and deals with the description of procedures used in the taking and processing of blood. It gives a concise documentation on the preparation of the patient prior to the taking and the procedure during the taking of venous blood. Emphasis is laid on the use of the closed system of blood taking. Mention is made of the transport and storage of samples, procedures of the taking of plasma and serum, and of obtaining and processing capillary blood.

Using MIPO technique, LCP 4,5/5,0, to treat intraarticular proximal tibia fracture

Intraarticular proximal tibia fracture is usualy very difficult therapeutic problem. In hhis video is showed minimal invasive treatment of the intraarticular proximal tibia fracture of type AO 41-C3 using the MIPO technique, LCP 4,5/5,0. The position of the patient is very important for the operation progress.

Autonomic Nervous system - overview

Autonomic Nervous system - overview

Animated scheme of the Autonomic control of body functions. Turn information on or off for step-by-step study or self - testing. The autonomic nervous system (ANS or visceral nervous system or involuntary nervous system) is the part of the peripheral nervous system that acts as a control system functioning largely below the level of consciousness, and controls visceral functions. The ANS affects heart rate, digestion, respiratory rate, salivation, perspiration, diameter of the pupils, micturition (urination), and sexual arousal. Whereas most of its actions are involuntary, some, such as breathing, work in tandem with the conscious mind.

Introduction to Biological Psychiatry

Introduction to Biological Psychiatry

Biological psychiatry occupies itself by mental disorders from biological, chemical and physical point of view. It is postulated that changes in brain signal transmission are essential in development of mental disorders. The purpose of this teaching material is to describe cellular and molecular properties of neurons, mechanisms of psychotropic drugs action and biological basis of mental disorders. Familiarity with biochemistry and physiology is supposed.
